The Building on the Water is in Huai’an, Jiangsu, China.

It is one of the world’s largest combined soda ash and ammonium chloride production plants. The plant covers an area of two square kilometers and employs the world’s most advanced manufacturing processes and technologies.

The building was to have a basic aesthetic function; to blend in amongst the most important production material in making glass – water. This building was to sit on the water and be part of it, creating an effortless and flowing aesthetic feel which is still highly functional.

The building takes full advantage of it’s settings, the concrete complimenting the shade of the water itself and the shape creating a smooth flow of shape against the tide of the water. It is elegant and sophisticated, creating a joyful harmony between man and environment.
